About the RadAware RD1
The RadAware RD1 sits in a sweet spot between dedicated scientific instruments and casual awareness tools. It’s less precise than an AlphaLab TF2 or Safe and Sound Pro II — you won’t get calibrated numeric readings — but it’s also a lot more accessible and much cheaper. The idea is simple: pick a threshold that reflects your personal comfort level, and let the RD1 quietly tap you on the shoulder whenever exposure crosses that line.
Three threshold settings cover most use cases, from low-sensitivity (sleeping environment) through medium (general awareness) to high (serious hotspots only). Feedback is a choice of visible LED, audible beep, or silent vibrate — handy when you’re in a meeting or want the device to alert you without anyone noticing.
Made in the United Kingdom by EMFields, the RD1 runs forty hours on a single AAA battery, which means you can clip it to a bag and forget about it for a full week of commuting.
