As 5G rolls out with small-cell installations on lamp posts and building facades, a new frequency band has entered everyday residential exposure: millimetre wave. Standard RF meters stop at 6 or 8 GHz — which means everything above that is invisible to them. The Pro mmWave fills that gap, covering 24 to 40 GHz with a sensitivity floor low enough to detect periodic test bursts and beam-formed signals.
This isn’t a replacement for a broadband meter like the Pro II — it’s a complement. Urban assessors now typically carry both: one for the familiar 200 MHz to 8 GHz band covering 4G, Wi-Fi, and legacy cellular, and one for the mmWave 5G additions on top. The Pro mmWave uses the same OLED display conventions and USB-C charging as the rest of the Pro line, so the user experience stays consistent.
Note that mmWave signals are highly directional and heavily attenuated by walls, foliage, and human bodies. Measurement technique matters more than with lower-frequency RF — orient the antenna, move slowly, and watch for the characteristic bursty pattern of beam-formed traffic.
